Auspicious Flowers and Plants for Chinese New Year

Happy New Year everyone! As the Chinese proverb goes 花开富贵 – Blossom flowers bring wealth and prosperity, here is a list of lucky and auspicious flowers for the lunar new year. Families decorate their houses for the festive celebration with lucky ornaments and fresh flowers that represent growth, prosperity and good luck!

Orchids

Orchids are undoubtedly the most popular and auspicious flower of choice during the festive period which can be found in a wide range of bouquets and arrangements. They symbolise fertility, wealth, beauty and luck. No matter the colour or variety, this flower is a beloved bloom for the new year. Here is Ana Hana's Orchid which is perfectly sized for living spaces:

Peach Blossoms

These blooms represent romance, prosperity and growth. A great addition to your home bringing in romance and love into your family for 2021! Do note that peach blossom arrangements can be pretty large and will need a lot of space to accommodate in your home.

Pussy Willows

Signifying growth and prosperity due to their fluffy blossoms and tall height, these delicate and feminine flowers will definitely make their presence known in your space. They can also last for months which makes it an excellent choice to spruce up your home even after Chinese New Year.

Peonies

Peonies are most commonly known as 富貴花, which stands for "Flowers of Prosperity”. The name is derived from how they grow in abundant clusters. Red peonies are also particularly more auspicious during Chinese New Year.

Narcissus

Referred to as water fairy flowers, these delicate blooms represent good fortune and prosperity. Their bright petals and sweet scent also makes them a popular choice for the home!

Lucky Bamboo

What can possibly be luckier than a plant that has “lucky” in its name already? The bamboo stalks are naturally bent and twisted into various shapes - typically an 8-shape which represents wealth. In addition, according to Chinese traditions, the significance of lucky bamboo is tied to how many stalks you have. For e.g. six stalks represent good luck and wealth while eight stalks represent growth. These houseplants are also decorated with red ribbons and lucky ornaments to also bring even better feng shui.

Money Plant

Also known as Devil’s Ivy - their coin-like leaves symbolises good luck and fortune. These versatile and hardy plants also act as a natural air-purifier as it omits toxins from the air.

We hope we've helped you in looking out for the lucky flower for this year's celebration :)
